Where have all the posts gone?

What I’m up to now

One of my two readers commented that I haven’t posted in a while.  Thank you for your interest.  It is humbling.  In fact my life has changed greatly in the last few weeks.  I was laid off and am now without a job.  As I did most of my internet interfacing at work, this has created a problem for satisfying my tremendous e-addiction.  I am too cheap/poor to have a broadband connection at home, plus the machine is in my daughter’s room.

All of this adds up to: very little internet activity for this jonesing surfer.  Oddly enough I do have the time and inclination.  I have been writing snippets of notes, essays parts maybe, and they would be perfect for I Am A Sheep.  The problem is the computer.  It ain’t in the place where I write.  Actually the Royal and the Corona Super-Silent are there.

I just typed and mailed two important letters.  One was to the St Herman of Alaska Brotherhood encouraging them their work in publishing Western Orthodox Roots.  This is covered in the chapter of  the same name in Father Seraphim Rose.  I also thanked them for printing the homilies of Archbishop Philaret of Chernigov “On the Passion of Our Lord Jesus Christ.”   The important part was a prayer I wrote out to Blessed Seraphim.  I am hoping they will place it at his grave.  I know a similar thing is done with Saint John the Wonderworker of San Francisco.  I’ll let you know.

The second letter was to the owners of a building which would be perfect for the chapel.  I’ll write more about the chapel in coming weeks.  Let me say that my priest has the Archbishops blessing to “plant” chapels around the area our parish draws from (basically all of East Tennesee).

Finally I began systematizing the notes on a Saint I am considering writing about.  This particular Saint is rather famous, but his life is only known in short episodes.  I am hoping I can be like Bev Macrina and put a book after my name every time I post to the convert list. (Love to Bev).

I will be gone for a week, when I get back I will set up the clumbering dinosaur (extra computer) in the garage, er office and post more often.

Finally, you may notice I have yet to find my blog voice.  For some the blog is a manifesto given the attention due a pamplet in Colonial America.  For others, it’s a place to relect on recent events.  For me its like the junk drawer in the kitchen.  You never know what you’re going to find, but it may be valuable.  Grant me your patience as I find my blogovoice.

Thanks,

Raphael the Sinner

Long time, no post

Been slowly reading my way through _Father Seraphim Rose: His life and works_. Usually I am a speedy reader, but this book is quite enjoyable in it coffee cup sized servings and slow pacing.

I would highly recommend this brick, er book, to Orthodox and non-Orthodox alike. Fr Seraphim is much more complex and wonderful than I had imagined.

I will probably have a job interview tomorrow for a technical writing position. As Friday is my last day at Cosmodemonic Telegraph [bitter indeed! can you name the reference?] this is amazing. Now, I am not trying to count my blessings before they, er, hatch, but it looks very promising. I have been quite relaxed about the whole, looking for a new job, thing. Contrary to my worthiness, God has given me the grace to *know* that he will provide for us. I have literally taken no care for tomorrow. If this works out, I will light some big fat candles and ask father to serve a molieben.

Last night I sat at my Royal typewriter and pounded out two single-spaced pages of notes on an Oxwomsi essay. I love writing on a typewriter; I have a soft spot for tactile stimuli. With a typewriter, you really have to work to write. It was my grandfathers and as such it has sentimental value. I have a younger machine, but it doesn’t handle like the Royal. And man is that sucker heavy.

As I was saying I wrote two pages of notes. When it gets into a less drafty stage I’ll post it here.

All ye saints, pray for us!
