Nanite SuperHero Notes

Posted in personal, superhero at by mountzionryan

Notes for a fiction project. here for safekeeping only.

  • Boss at Lab is a woman. She somehow survives and redeems herself by practicing medicine in rural Mexico. She can help Darius later.
  • Why doesn’t the host’s body’s immune system attack the nanites? They are made of a substance that the immune system does not attack (like pacemakers, surgical steel, etc…)
  • (Maybe) Darius was approached by a gov’t organization and warned of the pending attack. He is asked to bring the nanites out. He will have a specific amount of time to get out before the compound is destroyed by a hydrogen bomb.
  • Unbeknownst to Darius, his father is part of Alacorp and has been tracking him, but letting him get away. He agreed to bring Darius in if they leave D’s wife and children alone.
  • Alacorp is replicating the Nanite Project at more than one facility.
  • Enemy: an earlier version of the project—
    • bionic man,
    • nanites enter host and make permanent change.
  • Genetic mod type enemies. Genetic engineered humans.
  • Present day or near future (10 years).
  • Doesn’t age.
  • Core concepts: Darius abilities are not supernatural or mutant abilities or even pseudoscience. They are actually technological.
  • Nanite capabilities:
Temporary changes, limited by fuel source:

    • Heightened senses
    • Feats strength and speed
    • Regeneration
    • Armor
    • Change physical appearance
    • Eiditic Memory
    • Seems to slow time. Actually moving at incredible speed. And nanites increase his brain mojo to allow him to take in all the information.
    • Greater brain procession, ie spidey senses. A normal brain blocks a great deal of the data collected by the senses, the nanites can “open the pipeline” of this information giving Darius heightened senses and “bullet time.”
    • Pass through solid objects
    • Block Pain receptors, first thing to shut down when he needs to conserve energy.
    • Increased immune system.
    • Learn physical skills (martial arts, shooting for example) very quickly as the nanites boost muscle memory.
    • Shooting, nanites increase skill by allowing near instantaneous firing solution.
    • Hold breath until he blacks out.
    • Rapid environmental acclimatizing.
  • Side effects
    • Constant need to eat…nanite abilities need a lot of fuel.
    • Headaches
    • Pain (until he learns that the nanites can block pain).
    • Broadcasting a frequency originally intended to let Nanite soldiers communicate. Range 100 yds.
  • Weaknesses:
    • Environmental threats: desert, under water, extreme cold.
    • Nanites have as a Prime Directive regeneration. This is not a function that Darius can override. Massive wounds require redirection of nanite resources.

For example Darius leg gets shredded in a car accident and his heightened senses and other nanite functions are redirected to regenerate the wound.

    • Nanites consume a great deal of fuel (food). As the fuel runs out their functionality is diminished.
    • Regeneration is not necessarily instantaneous. Healing process normally depends on the bodies natural delivery through the bloodstream.

Another name for our Hero

As it looks like Ahau-kin is used as a character in a video game, and as it turns out, the name I just found is better…perhaps we should go with this:
The Balam (meaning ‘jaguar) are also Mayan guardian deities. They are poorly defined spirits who protect people in day to day life. Four balam stand at the cardinal points around a village to guard against dangerous animals. They also protect the four sides of a smallholding against thieves.

The local press and villagers call him El Balam

A new Hero, backstory

Posted in Uncategorized at by mountzionryan

Dr. John Darius is researcher for a secret Alacorp project. It seems Alacorp is hell-bent on taking over the U.S. How? They’ve already infiltrated and planted moles into every level of gov’t, fed and state. They coordinate a few terrorist attacks, the Prez. declares martial law and they take over. They even have a plan for shock-troops. Bionic shock troops.

Nonotechnology is advanced far beyond what most people would imagine. Although ludicrisly expensive, the technology exists through genetic engineering, to inject a swarm of nanites into a person. These nanites have limited AI and form a symbiotic bond with the human. They grant faster reflexes, heightened senses, regenerative healing, and a host of other powers.

One day, as Dr. Darius labors at his research into adrenaline boosting, an explosioin rocks the compound. Alarms blast and armed men come streaming into to buildings. Dr. Malhavoc rushes over to Darius and tells him the research can’t be lost. He must preserve it. Darius looks at him quizzically, then struggles as Malhavoc injects a large syringe full of something into him. Darius gets hit and knocked to the ground (he’s a scrwny nerd) and Malhavoc sends an email to his Alacorp bosses that he project is safe within Darius. [The nanites carry a kind of DNA, documentation and copies of their programs, functions, and features.]

Darius rises and is gunned down.

***

Several days later, as locals are sifting through the debris for anything worth salvaging, Darius gasps for breath and rises, spectre-like, Pheonix-like, from the smoldering ashes. His head is booming in pain and he is gagging from hunger. He rushes to the village cafe and asks for anything to eat. They start to bring it to him and the local Drug-lord/crime-boss, tells him to leave. Dirty, half-naked gringos aren’t welcome in his town. Darius objects, tells him he hasn’t eaten in days and the Bandito fires at Darius. Everyone is amazed as the bullts plop out of Darius’s torso and the holes heal up. Then Darius, in a blind rage, attacks the bandits and kills them. In the process he saves several innocent bystanders.

Ahau-Kin

Ahau-Kin
by Ryan Tuccinardi
“Lord of the Sun Face”. The Mayan sun god, Ahau-Kin possessed both daytime and nocturnal aspects. In his daytime manifestation, the sun god was often depicted with some jaguar features. However, between sunset and sunrise he actually became the Jaguar god, the Lord of the underworld, as he travelled from west to east through the lower regions of the world.

MZRs Bio

Posted in personal at by mountzionryan

Born in the ice fields of inner Antarctica, Ryan was raised on adventure. By the time he was was twelve he was learning the ways of the sea. After graduating High School, he sailed his square-rigged barque “Hrothgar” on a continuous circumnavigation for six years. When not on board Hrothgar, Ryan could be found trakking across the Rub al Khali, the Amazon basin, or Roman ruins in Northern Africa.

Or so he would like you to believe. Ryan is a keyboard jockey in a Government office by day and the editor of Mount Zion Speculative Fiction Review by night. He loves armchair adventuring, nautical fiction and history, Antarctica, Role-playing Games, and many divers types of music.

He is also an Orthodox Christian (OCA for those who know, think Russian or Greek for those who don’t).
